According to Vyasacharya, the knower of past, present and future, the varieties of Ghantakarna are limitless. He is like Gandiva in defence works and like Kubera in wealth works.

Lord Sadashiva gave the highest place to the Kirti Stambha, Kirtimukha pillar can be seen in South Indian Dev temples. Be it Tirupati temple or Kanyakumari temple. GhantaKaran is also one of such god. He is described as a devotee of Lord Shiva. His devotion to Lord Shiva is so famous that he did not want to listen to the glories of any other god except the name and virtues of his Ishtadev. Not only this, to avoid listening to the glories of other gods and to achieve the pinnacle of devotion, Shiv-Shiv, Har-Har, Ghantakarna tied two bells to his ears. When someone sang the glories of other gods in front of him, he would shake his head and ring the bells, so that he would not let the words of the glories of other gods except his Ishtadev reach his ears. Due to the exclusive devotion of the devotee, Lord Sadashiv blessed ‘Ghantakarna’ that he would accomplish the tasks of the one who would remember and worship him.
