A person is first identified by his clan. Just as every person has a name, a gotra, so is a clan. ‘Kul’ means the family or its lineage tradition, to which it belongs, that line has been going on for thousands and lakhs of years, but today the common man does not know the name of more than three-four generations of his clan.
